The recent blog by EIR and Branding Expert Will King (he of King Of Shaves fame) challenges people to wonder how important the work of Ffrees is.
It made me ask myself the same question. I have to keep reminding myself that if we get this right, we can change an industry, and in doing so, we can change people's lives for ever.
Current accounts should not be paid for by people going into debt. It is wrong. If people have to go into debt, that is bad enough (and most of us will at some point, so this an universal problem). Current accounts should not be a means to make this worse. And to extend the pain. They should be a way to manage and control your money and to avoid debt, even saving up a bit. Simple. And that is why what we are doing is important and why it is time to unbank and set yourself Ffrees.
But, I wonder if you realise how important what Ffrees is doing really is? For Ffrees isn't just another Shoreditch/Silicon Roundabout based sexy digital #fintech startup. It's a sexy digital Sheffield based #fintech #UnBank. At it's heart is financial equipotency. Please, take the time to read what this word means. And this makes it, critically, Different with Purpose. It has soul. You, me and probably most of the people we know (especially in the rarified professional world of Linked In) live in a cashless society. You know - the digital one - where you never actually 'see' money, you just see digits, plastic, smartphones and 'contactless payment'.
